Here some brief history of the cruise industry, at the beginning cruises weren’t for passengers, they were used to carry and transport heavy load. The Black Ball Line in 1818 was the first shipping company from the United States to England. During the 40’s it was a high improvement in the cruise business, they start the trips with passengers improving the quality day by day.

In the early 20th Century the concept change. In Germany because they develop and led a better way to design these floating hotels with elegant accommodations and with several activities. It was in England with Cunard Line, that they start the tradition of dressing for dinner. To make this experience a romantic one. But because of space, they have to share tables for dinner, not that romantic haha.

Then, The White Line Star introduced in 1912 the most luxurious passenger ship ever seen, with a swimming pool and tennis court. I´m sure you already know the name of this famous cruise THE TITANIC. The most incredible cruise ever seen. Because of the tragic & horrible ending, the White Star Line was devastated. As a result, Cunard Line bought White Star.

World War, interrupts the building of new cruises, another tragic event. They used old cruises as troop transportation. At the end of the war between 1920 to 1940 cruises were considered the most glamorous years for passengers ship, transporting famous rich passengers enjoying the luxury and fancy dinners. During World War II they also used the cruises for troop transportation. The ending of the transatlantic cruise liners was in 1958.

It was until the 1960’s that the cruise industry change drastically, the idea of romantic and fancy dinners chance to the idea of family and fun trips to the Caribbean. A casual environment was the trend. Also, it was a GREAT opportunity for the ones that couldn’t travel in 1930.

Nowadays, Cruise Lines is making the fastest growing in the leisure travel market. They are cruise lines for every target and any occasion, some of them are more luxurious and recognized than some of the best resorts.

Cozumel is one of the main stops and ports all over the world. Making the island very interesting to know for tourists.

The cruises began to arrive more frequently on the island in 1974. Creating nowadays one of the most important ports for cruise passengers worldwide. Thanks to cruise tourism & ships, Cozumel has grown impressively in a few years. Even in low season cruises allow many people to have work for most of the year, including the low season.

Because cruises are one of the main customers of the island here I will mention you some of them:

• Carnival, Founded in 1972. Nowadays they are 23 vessels working, the company names it ships as the Fun Ships, because of their amount of activities and their Las Vegas decoration.
• Royal Caribbean, & Celebrity Cruises, Merge in 1997, but before merging they had been in the market several years separately.
• Disney Cruise Line, Founded in 1998. Nowadays they are 4 vessels that have activities for every age, this cruise line will definitely make you feel like a child again.
• Norwegian, Founded in 1966. Their slogan is Freestyle Cruising, they are 14 vessels working and shortly will have 2 new ships.
• Marella Cruises, Founded in 1973. The original name was Thompson Cruises, they just renamed it in 2017. It is a British brand.

We have several things to do in this little paradise, such as good restaurants, great crafts to buy as souvenirs in the main center, also another great option for you and your family is to visit some beach clubs, we have plenty of them that includes food and beverages, and you can stay for the day enjoying beautiful and crystalline views. One of our favorite beach clubs to visit is The Cabana Beach Club, we love this place, it has pretty new furniture and an amazing large beach surrounded by palms and cabanas. Also, you can rent a car or a scooter to ride around the island, to the other side, as we call it and get to know our beautiful beaches by land. A great and healthy option is to rent a bike. But be careful because the wind is too strong and it is not a short ride. And of course, if you prefer water activities we truly recommend to rent a private boat to have fun and enjoy lots of wonderful places, snorkeling through the crystalline & turquoise water.
